Dear friends,
I came across a statement on many blogger profiles and was quite surprised and confused. The statement said “Spiritual but not religious.”
My limited understanding says that Religion and Spirituality cannot be separate. Spirituality is an important part of Religion. Study and practice of religion and its teachings makes a human spiritual.
I wonder is it really possible to be Spiritual but not religious? I have been pondering over this statement for quite some time, but did not get any convincing answer yet. What do you say? Any Clues? Please do share your views.
Best regards

Mohan, I guess the root of this debate is from a writing that wanted an absolute utopian society. I did not, however, quite get that idea.
ReplyDeleteI do not even see a need to openly denounce religion from being spiritual. However, in order that we rejuvenate our spirit, we need to identify a divine intent or goal. Now that may not be God always. As an atheist, one can definitely try to objectively concentrate on uplifting his/her spirit in the cause that he/she is associated with.
I refer the case of Alcoholics Anonymous, a group that attempts to perfect and enlarge their spiritual lives by working for others and self-sacrifice, shouldn't we consider them as spiritual?
If I believe in serving mankind by offering my charitable services, and be not too eager to practice it through any religion, am I not being spiritual?
This is my view, will be eager to hear your say on this.
i think..bahot deep me ye topic le jaa sakta hai.. as per idel mind says..
ReplyDeletebut me apni baat karta hun.. me pahele was not ready to accept dat god is there .. but jab se meri band baji hai... i can feel ke koi to/ ku6 to aisa hai jo apni saare sachhe man ki baatein note-down kar raha hai.. aur jab time aata hai to .. apni band baja hi deta hai,,..
so i believe dat god is there, now,, so i mean i m spiritual.. but.......
religion ke to me bilCOOL khilaaf hun....
ye sab devide and rule ke fundas hai... ya fir politics jaisa lagta hai mujhe ye religion ka hona..
religion ka mean lifestyle hona chahiye bas... usse badhke ku6 nahi.... lifestyle, means i wanna say ki religion ko sirf nazariya hi banana chahiye, jine ka..... bas,, na hi us per adda jamake ladayi jagde hone chahiye,,, as i have felt this religious deewar..... i hate religious word...
i agree with crazy..

ReplyDeleteAccording to my understanding they might not be too particular in following religion customs, is what they meant in my view. To be frank, I too wonder what is the differences..
